Thomas Flanginis was the founder of the Flanginian Gymnasium of Venice, which first opened in 1665. During its 132 years of operation, great scholars of the time served as teachers and students. The oil painting on cloth,dating from the 17th century, is located in the mansion of the Flanginian School, which, since 1953, houses the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies. (At the beginning of the 19th century, the painting was preserved by the Corfiot Spyridon Latranos, under supervision of the last teacher of the Flanginian School, Spyridon Vladis).

The flag of Filiki Eteria bore the "Priests' Recommending Letter" symbols of the Society, namely the sacred bond with the 16 parallel pillars united by a cross-band, a symbol of the sacred bond that unites the Friends. The flag had two lantern flags placed on either side of the cross, while at the centre of the wreath, the initials referred to the motto of the Revolution ''Liberty or Death''. In the winter of 1824-1825, Ibrahim landed in Methone (Modon) with a large army. Faced with the danger that Ibrahim would cross into the interior of the Peloponnese and extinguish the Revolution, Papaflessas fortified himself and his men near the village of Maniaki. The Hellenic Post, wishing to honour the memory of the French Philhellene General Chrarles Nicolas, Baron Fabvier (1782-1855), released (1 August 1927) a series of three stamps to mark the 100th anniversary of the successful liberation of the Acropolis by Fabvier. The stamp depicts the bust of the general in medal and in the background the Acropolis. The series is the only one bearing the inscription Hellenic Republic until 1982.

Byron is enthusiastically welcomed by the inhabitants, the clergy and the soldiers. Among them stands out the figure of Alexander Mavrokordatos, who had invited Byron to Missolonghi where the poet died shortly afterwards on 19 April.

The inauguration ceremony of Kapodistrias took place on January 28, 1828, at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in Aegina. The Panhellenic Council was sworn in and formed the provisional anti-governmental committee on the same day.

His most outstanding contribution to the Revolution was his involvement in securing loans and his initiative in organizing fund-raisers for the financial support of the Revolution. He also planned the establishment of the National Bank, of which he was an honorary governor after its establishment in 1841.

The shipowner Ioannis Leontides-Varvakis from the island of Psara (1745-1825) was one of the first merchants who benefited the newly established Greece. A leading member and financier of the Society of Friends, Varvakis became rich and gained titles in Russia, but he never forgot his homeland. He left most of his property to the Greek State in his will.
